The Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Board is the coordinating and oversight body for Wisconsin's 16 public, two-year technical colleges. It consists of 13 members, including 10 appointed by the Governor: a student, a farmer, an employer representative, an employee representative and 6 public members.
The remaining three "ex-officio" members, who serve by virtue of their professional position, are: the State Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, and the President of the University of Wisconsin (UW) Board of Regents, or his or her designee.
Among the Board's primary oversight responsibilities are System-wide tuition setting, program approval, facilities approval, state finance, state and federal government relations, and state and federal grant administration.
Because they operate as local units of government, Wisconsin's technical colleges are uniquely tied to the communities they serve.
A Message from the Board President
I envision a Wisconsin Technical College System where every student, regardless of background or circumstance, can thrive.
It is our mission to lead with innovation and collaboration, ensuring our colleges are engines of opportunity and transformation for all.
To realize this vision, we commit to a strategic approach addressing achievement gaps and promoting student success.
We will harness our information technology infrastructure to identify and monitor achievement gaps utilizing data for targeted interventions and resource allocation.
We will expand access to essential services, such as advising, tutoring, mental health support, and food and childcare resources, to ensure every student has the tools to succeed.
Partnering with community organizations and employers provides wraparound services and creates pathways to mentorships, internships, apprenticeships and employment opportunities connecting students to meaningful careers.
Promoting dual enrollment, scholarships and tuition assistance programs, while offering flexible scheduling and online learning options further supporting working learners and caregivers.
Student and business voices will inform policy and programming, celebrate student and industry success, inspiring and guiding future learners and partnerships.
Together we will further build and enhance a responsive and empowering technical college system for Wisconsin.
